Hi, I'm Adison! I am a junior at HKIS with a wide range of interests across many subjects such in both humanities and STEM departments. I am currently a teaching assistant at HKIS and a recognized private swim instructor in my neighborhood. Through these activities, I have discovered the joy I have in helping and supporting others through their learning, particularly challenging myself with the task of explaining complex concepts in relateable and approachable ways. Aside from being an achieving student at school, I enjoy competitive swimming, lifeguarding, listening to podcasts, and spending time with my friends and family.

I specifically chose to be a TA for Advanced Algebra due to the challenge it gives me to explain complicated numbers and formulas in approachable ways for students with varying senses and strengths in numeracy and math. I understand that students have different levels of background knowledge, and I always quickly adapt to their level of knowledge and learning preferences. If possible, I always explain difficult concepts in numerous relatable ways and teach multiple approaches that students can use to tackle specifically difficult problems. Through being a swim instructor, I have adopted the teaching style of focusing on the small details in students' learning and making lessons fun and enjoyable.

Tutoring Experience

Besides being the "go-to" person my friends ask for help from when they're struggling with science subjects in school and being a built-in proof-reader for my younger brother's humanities essays, I have official experience in teaching/tutoring as well. I am currently a teaching assistant for Advanced Algebra at HKIS, which is a course that many grade 10 students find particularly difficult. I have successfully helped students grasp challenging concepts and have mentored them in preparing to score well on tests. Additionally, I regularly teach private swim lessons in my neighborhood to children of all ages spanning from toddlers to middle-schoolers (3-11). I have successfully taught several young swimmers how to effectively swim multiple strokes and have helped my swimmers qualify to join competitive swim clubs.
