Hi, my name is Ryan and I'm a recent HKIS graduate. I am currently taking a gap year before I head off to Fordham University. I've lived in Hong Kong for 10+ years. I enjoy playing basketball and rugby, and I intend to pursue environmental studies in college. In terms of academics, I've taken honors and AP math classes all throughout high school (Honors Geometry, Honors Advanced Algebra, Honors Precalculus, and AP Calculus), as well as a myriad of other AP classes. I am passionate about learning and I hope to help my students enjoy the learning process and excel in their academics.

My main goal when teaching is to not only enhance academic performance but to prepare my students for high school and beyond by encouraging them to challenge themselves. One technique that I find helps solidify understanding is asking the student to explain their thinking and going through the steps of a solution deliberately. I find that once a student is able to articulate WHY a certain method is used rather than just grinding through practice problems, real understanding and learning are achieved. I find that many students are often hesitant to make mistakes and to ask for help, while I encourage it as they are true signs of learning. I aim to create a welcoming and supportive experience for my students.

I have taught several students through Levitate, and have been working with the company for nearly two years. I focus on teaching math (mainly in the middle school age range) and I have found it to be a great experience as I think it's a great opportunity for younger students to find their love of learning early which can carry on into high school and hopefully for the rest of their life.
