Wesleyan University

Hi there! I'm Gaile. I am currently a sophomore at Wesleyan University, majoring in Chemistry and Earth and Environmental Sciences. I think that education should be a largely fulfilling pursuit instead of an obligation. I hope to communicate such sentiments to my tutees as I assist them with their subjects. Learning anything will inevitability present its own challenges, however I hope to work my tutees to be less intimated by such challenges, instead to feel intrigued by the unknown and find drive to learn.

When it comes to teaching, especially in a tutoring setting, it is crucial to build a collaborative partnership with my student. As mentioned in my biography, I feel that education should be something that excites students. So I tend to open my lessons by getting to know my student, to gain a better understanding of what type of learner they are and ultimately try to connect their genuine interests to their education. Beyond forming a collaborative partnership with the student, I also try to work with their parents to gain a better understanding of what they are hoping to get out of these lessons. Whether it simply be better grades or study habits, I always do my best to satisfy my clients needs. I also try to make myself available through email with my students, so they can communicate any queries they may have outside of designated class times. As I understand that an hour or two every week may not be sufficient.

Tutoring Experience

I have had 3 years of tutoring experience. Some of these experiences include working as a Dean Peer Tutor for my university's organic chemistry students, working as a mandarin language partner with my university's language students, freelance tutoring in Hong Kong and work with Levitate. I have experience assisting younger students, for example those beginning their secondary education, with building good study habits, fostering a more open approach to school and potentially exploring ways to build up their profile for university applications. Beyond that, I also have had experience teaching students in IB subjects.
